Digital Television Ratings US Top 10 & More (January 15 – January 21, 2017)

23 January, 2017

This week it is all about the new shows in the top 10 digital television ratings chart. Netflix’s Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events still reigns on the Digital Original chart this week: The dark family-oriented comedy had 125% more demand than the previous fan-favorite mystery drama The OA. The arrival of Amazon’s Sneaky Pete on January 13th, which sees a thirtysomething con man (Giovanni Ribisi) assume the identity of his cellmate, leapfrogged onto the chart with 43% more demand than Netflix’s Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency – another new entry in the chart. It is interesting to note that Amazon’s anchor show The Grand Tour is 24% more popular than Sneaky Pete.

Also new in the digital televisions ratings chart is Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defender, an animated children’s show produced in partnership with Dreamworks with just under 3% more demand than Netflix’s first original series – House of Cards. When the political drama returns on May 30th, expect demand to expand significantly, given the current political climate.

On the overall show chart, The Walking Dead came back from the dead with 17% more demand than Sherlock, with the news that the second half of the seventh season will be less violent. Lemony Snicket also appears in this chart: The show is 6% more popular than global hit Game of Thrones, the latter has as yet an unknown airing date for its seventh season. Another relatively new show is HBO’s The Young Pope, riding on Jude Law’s performance, and glorious costumes. The show has come in at ninth position on the chart with 15% more demand than teen drama Pretty Little Liars, returning for its final season on April 18th, for which we expect demand to swell closer to the release date.
