Turkey series genre and subgenre preferences

  • Turkey was by far the most drama-loving market in this report. 71.6% of demand for shows in Turkey was for a drama, helped in large part by the robust supply of local dramas that have also found success abroad.
  • The reality genre made up a significantly smaller share of audience demand in Turkey (6.5%) than it did globally (11.9%) in Q3 2024.
  • While dramas overall may be popular in Turkey, science fiction is not a type of drama that has broken through in this market. Only 15.2% of demand for shows was for a science fiction series, the lowest share of demand for this genre in this report.

  • LGBTQI+ content made up a smaller share of demand in Turkey than in any other market in this report. Only 4.4% of demand was for one of these series here.

Turkey originals demand share and series demand distribution

  • Content from local channels made up a significant share of demand in Turkey. NOW (rebranded from FOX early this year) had the largest share of demand of local channels with 6.5% in Q3 2024.
  • Pressured by high demand for local content, Netflix originals made up a smaller share of demand in Turkey than in any other market in this report (7.9%). The highest ranked Netflix original series was One Piece which ranked #50 in demand, underscoring the difficulty of breaking into this market with robust local content.
  • CBS also had a smaller share of demand (3.9%) in Turkey than other markets in this report. NOW, Kanal D, Show TV, and Star TV are local channels that all had a larger share of demand for their original content than CBS this quarter.

  • Erkenci Kus, from Star TV, was the most in-demand local series in Turkey for the quarter where it ranked as the third most in-demand show.
  • Hudutsuz Sevda, only had slightly lower demand than Erkenci Kus this quarter making it a tight race to be the most in-demand local series in Turkey. Ultimately Hudutsuz Sevda ranked as the fourth most in demand show for the quarter in its home market.
  • Cranberry Sorbet (Kizilcik Serbeti), was the top ranked series from Kanal 7 and ranked as the eighth most in-demand show in Turkey in Q3 2024.
