Parrot Analytics’ TV data measurement is based on Demand Expressions, the global industry standard metric enabled by our demand measurement system, which captures the popularity of TV content regardless of platform in over 100+ markets. In this article, we investigate which SVOD TV series, as well as pay TV, broadcast, and linear TV series, are currently the most in-demand in the U.S. domestic market. As each week, our charts are powered by Parrot Analytics global TV demand data.

Our TV data measurement reveals that the battle for popularity between two hit series is heating up: Season six of Netflix’s Orange is the New Black is building momentum (+46% compared to the prior week). The long-running comedy-drama series created by Jenji Kohan is eighth-most popular in our overall chart. Elsewhere, The Handmaid’s Tale from Hulu has seen demand falling slightly, -16% compared to last week, one week after its second season finale. New episodes will return in 2019.

A new series has appeared in our chart this week with Hulu’s Castle Rock making its premiere on July 25, based on the literary canon of Stephen King. The horror series has placed sixth on our digital originals chart, it was ranked #28 last week, and will be airing its 10 episodes weekly, mirroring the roll-out schedule of The Handmaid’s Tale. Two weeks ago, Castle Rock appeared in our chart after a first full trailer was released on July 10. This type of genre does not usually appear in the top ten, so we are anticipating to what extent this meticulously crafted mystery series, brimming with allusions, will satisfy fans of Stephen Kings’ work. Rounding out the top ten, Netflix’s junior college football documentary Last Chance U, which ranked #73 in the prior week with demand increasing fourfold, returned July 20th for a third season with 17.6 million Demand Expressions.

The top ten overall shows also saw some newcomers: Both The Originals and Steven Universe rose in demand as each season is reaching its end, while America’s Got Talent decreased in demand slightly.
